Georgian house set in a park by the river Thames in Twickenham. Had a guided tour on a Saturday morning very knowledgeable guide. Lovely wallpaper in a lot of rooms including Chinese paper in one of the rooms. Cafe in the park lovely coffee and cake. Also do light lunches.
Beautiful setting kids loved it worth joining the National Trust
The guide was very informative and brought the history alive.
This is the last example of a house in Palladian style left along this stretch of the Thames. The grounds are open all year but the house is open from March to October. The stnd out feature is the exceptionally comprehensive tour, which lasted over an hour. Where the very knowledgeable guide told us the history of each room, it's context (historical, artistic and cultural) in detail. This brought it alive and made the experience quite different from just a visit with an audio guide. I'd definitely recommend!
I had a wonderful tour of this beautiful house, the guide was a lovely lady who provided lots of info and interesting details about the building and occupants in a beautiful story-telling style. And the relationship between Henrietta Howard and King George... The wallpaper in the dining room, the fabric used for the curtains and beds, the red silk in a damask pattern in the bedroom (and green in the other bedroom), the paintings and the ornate ceilings and columns are my favorites. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit :)
