Very nice station. The staff are nice, and the boarding process is easy. There are chairs and tables outside to sit and just relax while waiting for your train. There's sufficient seating on the inside, too, and the building is clean. I will definitely be using this station for my future Amtrak trips. EDIT: Forgot to mention there's also a small snack stand in the station. (I don't think it's affiliated with Amtrak though.)
Took the Carolinian to Raleigh and back from the Staples Mill Station and had a fine time. Polite staff, decent seating, and a nice waiting area out back by the platform. The seating could do with some updates and the bathrooms could be a little more private, but no major complaints anywhere.
My train was scheduled to leave the station at 6 am from Richmond Staples Mill. I arrived at the station at 5:58 because of a delay with my Uber ride. Walking to the gate, I was told by Amtrak personnel that they close the gate 2 minutes before departure, so although I'm standing there at the gate with enough time to board the train before it departs the station, I have to to stand there and watch my 6 a.m. train (which departed after 6 a.m.) pull off without me on it. I understand I was pushing it, but the train was still in the station and it didn't even pull off at 6 a.m. sharp, like the attendant told me it would. I didn't feel like the attendant wasn't compassionate or understanding to the situation that was unfolding.Now I have to spend an extra $40 to get to my destination. Oh by the way, the next train scheduled to depart the station is conveniently an hour and 15 minutes late-tardiness that I am asked to be understanding of by Amtrak, yet I'M not afforded the same understanding when they close the gate in my face. How ironic ! I feel cheated out of my money and my time. I purposely have not rode an Amtrak train in years because of a prior bad experience, and I call myself giving it "another try" only to be met with this situation. They never fail to disappoint me, and because of this, I do not plan on giving you another one of my hard-earned dollars. I'd advise you to look for an alternative means of transportation if you don't want to waste your time and money.

The newly renovated Staples Mill train station is a much better experience and pretty well planned. Now, there is lots of parking space. The main station setup is minimalistic yet convenient. Much better than the older station. Good job by Amtrak.
